Barcelona want Matthias Ginter - "Sit down" with Gladbach "after the tournament"
Matthias Ginter wants to focus on the European Championship and the job in the German national team shirt. Under contract until 2022 at Borussia Mönchengladbach, the 27-year-old has not paid much attention to a transfer. "It would be a bit weird to put the focus on me and do my own thing," Ginter said at a press conference hosted by the German national team in Herzogenaurach.
After Ginter has been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen by Sport Bild, the center-back is also being watched by Barcelona according to a report by the Redaktionsnetzwerks Deutschland. The Catalans are in for the defender for whom Gladbach can only offer a new contract with a reduced salary. "The ten golden years in which there was always more and more money are over," Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl has said to Bild. "Players, agents, clubs—everyone has to take a step back." Ginter earns €3.5 million a year.
Ginter did not want to comment on a potential contract renewal at Gladbach on Thursday. "Currently, there is nothing to talk about, there have been no talks," Ginter said. "There have been no negotiations or other talks to renew my contract, that is normal during a tournament."
Ginter and Gladbach will sit down after the Euros
Gladbach could still earn money from a transfer this summer and Ginter wants to play internationally, especially to impress new national team head coach Hansi Flick. Gladbach have missed out on international football after finishing eighth in the Bundesliga last season.
